WATER GARDEN WITH KOI POND

FAWKHAM, KENT

This project was a completely blank canvass. After an initial consultation with the clients, it was clear this was going to be the kind of project to get your teeth into. The lovely clients just wanted a nice garden with a large pond and a stream with lots of colour and the sounds of running water. They left it down to us to come up with something special. The garden was a large steep slope so we decided to divide the garden into circular level terraced sections and allow the stream to meander down the garden to the large oval Koi pond. Once installed we fully maintain the water garden for the clients

The premium rubber liner pond has steep sides surrounded with reclaimed natural stone to make it difficult for any predators, so no need for obtrusive nets. The stream was installed with a triple layer of membrane and liner with a covering or shingle bedded into concrete to give full protection and durability. We installed a resin-bound pathway with sleepers alongside the stream so to enjoy the sights and sounds of the natural-looking stream as you walk up to the Breeze house area where there are another waterfall and pool for wildlife with aquatic plants.

The stream and resin-bound pathway with oak sleepers are surrounded by natural stone rockeries planted with vibrant colours which lead to timber bridges where you can cross the stream to circular terraced level lawn areas to sit and relax surrounded by the sounds of splashing water, the lush foliage and all year round flowers bursting into life.

The Koi pond and stream has an eco rock edge which gives it great natural beauty. The benefits are plants and wildlife thrive and co-exist within the pond without the Koi destroying and eating them all. The plants and pond plankton then help cleanse the water making it a healthy place for fish and gives food for amphibians and other wildlife.
