 WILDLIFE POND, WATER GARDEN INSTALLATION

LENHAM, KENT

This project was a completely blank canvass. The garden was just a plain lawn and the client wanted to incorporate a fish pond and a wildlife pond that would be connected via a small stream. They also wanted the whole area surrounded by a colourful planting scheme to encourage wildlife to move in. We installed the entire feature during the wettest winter I can remember. the entire garden became a bog. I wish I had the photos to show you but they were lost during a virus attack on our old pc. Fortunately, we visited regularly after installation so I can show you the finished garden feature.

The bio edge of the wildlife pond soon encouraged the aquatic plants to grow well into the rocky edges. The wildlife moved in so fast and in the first spring, we had crested newts mating in the stream with the males displaying to the females whilst swimming in the current. its moments like that makes this muddy installation so worthwhile.

The premium rubber liner pond has steep sides surrounded with reclaimed natural stone to make it difficult for any predators, so no need for obtrusive nets. The stream was installed with a triple layer of membrane and liner with a covering or shingle bedded into concrete to give full protection and durability. The planting scheme gives all year round colour and encourages pollinators and other wildlife into the garden to thrive in this water garden.
