 ECO LAKE & WATERFALL

HARTLEY, KENT

After the initial dig out by the building company, we moved in to create a lake with an extra-large waterfall. We were asked to create colourful rockery borders and give it a natural eco edge of native marginal plant species to encourage wildlife and create a natural balance without filtration systems. We used a mixture of purple shist and golden quartz rocks which both contain beautiful natural seams of colour to enhance the planting scheme. We fully maintain the lake, water feature and surrounding gardens for the client.

The sides of the lake a divided into four different sections. The front is grass turfs to be kept neat in front of the panoramic windows. The back contains the waterfall and all year round colour and foilage raised rockery beds plus a planted back edge with a quartz stone finish with a grass path walkway surrounded by a wildflower meadow. The sides are left for native species of aquatic and native plants with a grassland meadow for the young amphibians to hunt and hide from predators. The pumps that run the waterfalls are ultra lower power consumption eco pumps that are set to timers to prevent excessive algae build-up and keep energy use low. The natural planting keeps the water clean and clear without filters or treatments.

THis lake and garden is still a project we are adding to every year with more photos to follow..
